The Petpet Laboratory

Introduction

The Petpet Laboratory is a lab ray for your Petpets! Players that have collected all 9 pieces of the Petpet Laboratory Map (and all 9 pieces of the Secret Laboratory Map.) will be able to zap one attached petpet daily. User's with an active Premium Subscription will be able to use the ray twice daily.

You may use the Petpet Lab Ray on your side accounts, provided the map pieces or the Neopoints used to obtain them originated from your main account. This allows you additional Petpet zaps each day.

Once you've collected both map sets, you can assemble them here to gain access to the Lab Rays.

How it Works

After unlocking the ray, choose a Petpet attached to one of your pets from the drop-down menu, then click Zap the poor Petpet! to proceed.

After zapping your petpet you will get one of the below possible outcomes;

• Change your Petpet's colour or species (to any Petpet up to rarity 101).
• Change your Petpet to a Lab Ray exclusive color or species
• Increse or Decrease your Petpet's lvl by 1
• Change your Petpet's name
• Turn your Petpet into a Pile of Soot (Pile of Soot Petpets can still be zapped)
• Make your Petpet disappear into oblivion
• Nothing

Before zapping your petpet is it important to be aware of the following;

• Petpets that have been zapped are ineligible to win the PPL Award. This can only be reversed by detaching the Petpet, which resets its age to 0 days.
• Zapped Petpets are immune to any form of Petpet Paint Brush.
• If a Petpet disappears, it is lost permanently, along with any Petpetpets attached to it.
• Petpets zapped by the ray will be visible to the public from your Neopet's lookup with a lightning bolt indicator.

Lab Exclusive Petpets

Several Petpet colour and species combinations are exclusive to the Petpet Lab Ray and cannot be obtained elsewhere. The full list of exclusive Petpets can be found below.

Picnic Petpets

Alongside the Petpets listed above, there are seven more Lab Ray-exclusive colours. These are as follows: 8-Bit, Alien, Chocolate, Gold, Ice, Jelly & Strawberry.

Occasionally, there are exceptions to the Lab Ray-exclusive colours listed above, such as the Chocolate Albat, which was available through Trudy's Surprise, or the Ice Polarchuck, which was obtainable via the 2025 Advent Calendar.

Avatars

There are two avatars that can be obtained via the Petpet Lab Ray.

The Unidentified Flying Kadoatie! avatar is earned by having your petpet zapped into any Alien petpet.

The Petpet Laboratory avatar is obtained after your pet is reduced to a Pile of Soot by the ray.

Fortune Cookie

For seven days after opening the Petpet Lab Ray Fortune Cookie, you’ll receive 1–3 bonus Petpet Lab Ray zaps per day. These stack with your normal zaps, allowing up to 4 total daily zaps and up to 5 for Premium users.
