You are allowed a MAXIMUM of one main account and up to four additional accounts that can be used as galleries, etc. You are only allowed to use the once per day activities such as Coltzan's Shrine and the Tombola with your main account.
The limitations of what you can do on your extra accounts are still very vague. Here is table that explains what you are allowed to do on your main and on your side accounts. Keep in mind that all activites done on your side account(s) must be fund with your main account.

You should have one main account that you use for earning Neopoints, buying, selling, trading, and all of that great stuff. It is okay to transfer your Neopoints from one account to the other, but is very risky and should be done at your own risk.
Neopets does not allow you to earn, sell, buy, or trade items on your extra accounts though (you will get frozen). So let's say you own an "Uber Potion" and want to sell it. Simply send that item to your main account and sell it. If you sell it on your side account, you may get frozen for "Using multiple accounts to gain Neopoints".
So, use one account for trading and selling items (running your shop, etc). Use other accounts for storageonly.
