The Daily NeopetsNeopets Articles › Block Neopets Ads (IE)

Irritated by all those advertisements Neopets flashes in your face whenever you browse the site? Well, there is a way to banish those ads without switching to an entirely text-based browser. In fact, you probably won't have to switch browsers at all (and you'll pick up a few nifty tweaks to IE while you're at it). Please note that the steps in this tutorial only work for Internet Explorer version 6 and above.

The software we're going to use in order to manage the blocking of all these irritating ads is called 'IE7Pro'. Don't be fooled by the name - it works well on Internet Explorer 6 as well as the Internet Explorer 8 beta. Your first step towards an ad-free Neopets experience (apart from finding this guide :P ) will be to download IE7Pro here and install it. There's no need to worry about the specific settings of the install if you don't understand them - just leave them on the defaults and make sure 'AD Blocker' is enabled. You'll need to close Internet Explorer for the installation, so just come right back here afterward.

Right, now that you've finished the installation of IE7Pro, there's only a short step left to do. The program's ad blocker comes with a pretty comprehensive default filter list, but there are a number of advertisements on Neopets which these filters don't cover, so we'll have to add in our own filters for those manually. Firstly, press Ctrl + F7 to bring up the IE7Pro preferences (or double click on the IE7Pro icon near the bottom right of your window). Next select 'AD Blocker' from the list of categories that appears. You should end up with something like this:

Now, in order to add a filter, you need to copy and paste the filter rule into the 'Rule' box and then select the correct filter type from the list under 'Filter type' (in our case we select 'URL Block Filter'). Once you're sure both of those are correct, click the 'Add' button to add the filter.

You'll need to add these three filters:

Done? Well click 'OK' and that's all! Next time you load a Neopets page, there should only be blank spaces where the ads once were - not bad huh? ;) IE7Pro also provides a number of other useful tidbits, such as browsing acceleration, mouse gestures, and a download manager. Feel free to check them out and customise/disable them as you feel necessary. Happy browsing!
