The Beauty Contest is hard to win. But there's one thing that almost all of the winners, and most of the top contenders, have in common; advertising. You can't win by a good picture alone. Of course, you'll have to have your pet entered first. When you enter it, it will always be in next week's contest (they start on Fridays) and it will say on the entery form when the contest starts for that pet. The best time to enter is two days before the contest starts so you don't have to wait as long.

Advertising is a hard but simple task. The most basic and needed thing you can do is to put the link to you pet (which is awlays is neopets.com/beauty/details.phtml?pet=*petname* form) in your sig. That way you have it when you post. It also helps to have something polite such as 'Spare a *species* vote?' or 'Look at my *species*?' as well.

The best place to advertise is the Beauty Contest board. There are lots of boards, espically on the first day of a new contest, with titles like 'All votes open!' These boards are usually the best place to start. Go onto one that dosen't have a ton of replies yet, scan down really fast to make sure no one else of your species has posted yet, and add a polite reply like 'Look at my *species*?' or 'Vote for my *species*?' If they have a pet entered as well, it's proper to comment on their pet as well, even if you didn't vote for it.

There are also Silent Voter boards. A slient voter is a person who will look at entries and comment on them, but not say who they voted for. A board like this you should post on and then keep an eye on it to see their comments.

There are also some boards for trading votes. The titles are usually things like 'Vote for vote'. This is illegal and you shouldn't do this.

The BC boards aren't the only place to advertise. If you have the link in your sig, you can hang on in almost any other board and rack up votes as well. Go to the Kad boards from time to time? Neoquest? Avatar? Head there and start chating. You'll get votes without trying 9 times out of 10.

You can get votes from people at your guild as well. They'll be more than happy to vote. And if you're part of a fourms community like TDN, post is the advertisment board or your sig about it and tell your friends and you'll get plenty of votes there as well.

The best tip you can find for advertising is be nice. The BC board is full of regular, kind neopians. Occasionally there will be a random n00b there with a board like 'FREE PAINT BRUSH!' Most if not all of the replies here will be along the lines of 'How about a vote instead?' or 'A PB is nice, but a vote is better.' Just about all of the painted pets that people have there were hand painted or gotten from the Fountain Faerie and just about everyone there knows it's better to hand paint and work for things than scam and beg their way to it. This probably comes from the fact that it's more fun to draw a loved pet that you put time and energy into painting.

It also helps to have a better picture on your petpage, the link to which is with your entry automatically. Just say that it's there in your speech. (You can fill out your speech when you enter you pet.)
